He Delivered Me From All My Fears

It is an honor to volunteer at SWR.  Each week we put into practice the Ranch’s motto, “Helping Horses, Help People”.  I come alongside young women who are eager and willing to learn.

But in order for the learning to take place, we must first face and overcome obstacles that keep us from going forward.  A common obstacle I often hear is “I’m afraid”.  Could it be that they are afraid of not being able to accomplish the task, or that they fear repeating the same, old ways that have taken them into destructive life directions?

I identify with these feelings. We have all experienced times when fear becomes a stronghold. I realized that the only power to break the stronghold of fear is found in the Bible.

A Nazi concentration camp survivor, Corrie Ten Boom, believed this!  She said, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”  I like to ponder that thought until it really sinks deep within.

One of my favorite movies, “Secretariat”, is played on the backdrop of the Old Testament book of Job (39:19-25), where it asks, “Who made the strength of the horse?  Who made the flowing mane?  Who gave the horse speed?  Who gave it the ability to leap?” The answer? GOD.  I also like this movie because it depicts the beautiful relationship between a horse and its owner, which I can relate to as a disciple of Jesus Christ.  When we allow our lives to be distracted by fear, just as Secretariat was distracted by fear, we take our eyes off our own finish line. Secretariat  learned to trust and overcome his fear by staying focused on the one that was leading him.  We must stay focused on the One who is leading us as well (Hebrews 12:1-2).

“I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from ALL my fears.” – Psalm 34:4

After reading this passage, I began to understand what to do.  By strengthening my relationship with my Lord Jesus and spending time with Him, then by His power, my fears can be overcome. God’s Word says it, but do we believe it?

I have heard it said, “A nice place to be is in someone’s thoughts, a good place to be is in someone’s prayers, and the very best place to be is in the Hands of the Almighty God.”  Seek the Lord today, and He will deliver you from all your fears.
