Saddle Up Your Horses. We’ve Got a Trail to Blaze

We just finished our summer Hoofbeats and Trailblazers campand the lyric, “Saddle up your horses. We’ve got a trail to blaze”, from the Steven Curtis Chapmen song “Great Adventure”, turned out to be our de facto musical theme. It seemed to encapsulate the excitement and energy of the equine activities that filled the camp programs each week.

It takes a lot of planning, staff, volunteers, and a lot of prayer coverage to complete these programsAll our staff and volunteers, including our horses, pour all we have into each child coming through the gates at SWR.  You never know when that one word, smile, that one act of kindness, or word of encouragement will forever change an outcome in someone’s life.

Each planned activity is built upon another to learn to be confident and intentional in who we are, what we believe, and what we will do with it. Our hope is that each camper will take the tools they’ve learned at camp with them down any trail they take.

When I think about all our camps this summer, one particular, young girl comes to mind. Upon her arrival, it was apparent that she had some big fears. I watched as some of the kids tried to comfort her and help her during some of the group activities. I listened to one of our staff as she told the story of this girl guiding her horse through all the obstacles in the round pen. And I watched with joy as she rode her horse on the last day with a great big smile on her face. I know that she will never forget her experience here at SWR and that she now has some brand, new tools to help her overcome those challenges life has a way of throwing at us all.

I’m thankful for every single child and teen that came through our summer camps. And I am confident that Jesus will continue the work that he started in each and every child!

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.*
